Drink Driving

Commonly referred to as exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol where the person has been required to blow into a breath analysing instrument or has had a blood sample taken after the person has been driving or in charge of a motor vehicle.

Traffic offences

The whole range of offences under the Road Safety Act and Road Safety Rules, such as careless driving, failing to stop and give particulars at the scene of an accident, exceeding the speed limit or disobeying a traffic control signal.

Criminal law

Offences covering criminal sanction from fine to a jail sentence.

Family violence / Intervention orders

The law provides a type of injunctive relief to families to offer protection from family violence. The range of orders that can be made under the Family Violence Protection Act range from simply not committing family violence to not going within a certain distance of a protected person.

Stalking

The law provides injunctive relief to protect a person who has been subject to a course of conduct of unwanted contact. Under the Stalking Intervention Orders Act such an offender may be restricted or prohibited from acting in a whole range of activities such as approaching or going near a person in need of protection.

Criminal compensation

A compensation order can be sought by a victim of a crime if the offender has been convicted of a criminal offence. The victim can seek that the offender pay damages to compensate for such things as actual bodily harm suffered, grief, distress or medical expenses.
